The City of Boulder’s population grew by 69 runners, plus more than a few more fans, on Saturday, as the Panthers hosted a cross-country meet.

Traditionally, this marks the start of the cross country season for many area schools. This year, Sheridan, Anaconda, Broadwater, Whitehall, Three Forks, Cascade and West Yellowstone came to visit, with 26 girls and 43 boys taking part in a race that sees many elevation changes and is blessed with some of the most beautiful views in the state. The course starts behind the City Shop and finishes at Veterans Park.

Hyrum Parke was the first varsity runner over the line for the Panthers, finishing in eighth place with a time of 20:42. Christian Davis took fourteenth in 22:30, and Logan Gilmore placed fifteenth in 22:30. Laurynn Armstrong was the top Panther girls’ finisher, taking sixteenth in 28:23; Hailee Stiles was just behind in seventeenth in 28:51.

Running in the boys’ JV race, Brendan Gallagher took twelfth in 25:46, while Joey Riehl placed seventeenth in 48:08. Bella Abbott won the girls’ JV race in 33:19, with her teammate Izaro Torralbo placing second in 37.14.

Next up for the “Hoofers” will be the Butter Central Meet at Fairmont on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The meet scheduled for Pony on the fourteenth may be cancelled.
