Family of the late Clancy teacher Rita Ostby Ulrich pose Sept. 28 in front of a maple tree planted in her memory the previous day in front of Clancy’s Old Red Schoolhouse. They are, from left: (back) Jeannie Ostby, Grant Ostby, Luke Ostby, Greta Adams, Marissa Ostby, Lisa McKittrick and Tom McKittrick; (front) London Ostby (holding the plaque) and Sloane Ostby. “Like the crimson leaves falling from the maple tree, while they are still vibrant and beautiful, so, too, we lost our dear Rita Ostby Ulrich, while she was still full of life, fun and love for all her family,” Lisa McKittrick said by email, explaining why a maple was chosen to honor Ulrich’s memory. Following a dedication in which a plaque was inserted into the ground next to the tree, the ladies of the Methodist Church held a reception according to McKittrick, whose daughter is married to Ulrich’s son Luke Ostby. “Please remember Rita with a smile in your heart, when you see the red leaves fall in the autumn,” she added.
