Here's a list of events and activities in Jefferson County that have been canceled or postponed due to coronavirus risk -- as well as service advisories from area agencies and organizations. We'll keep this list current as we get news; please send your updates to

Bear Grass Suites: Anyone with travel history outside of the state or who has had contact with people from out of state within the last month, please call 406-225-3101 (ask for Amanda) before visiting.

Boulder Community Library: 

A staff member will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am-4pm to answer any questions or get account information via phone only at 225-3241. Patrons also can send a message on Facebook or email Staff will NOT be able to supply any materials to patrons during this time. For residents who need a computer to file unemployment claim or to do other essentials onlin, there is a laptop set up in the library foyer that is available by appointment only. Please call 225-3241 to schedule. Doors will continue to be locked and no other access to the library or materials will be granted.

Boulder Elementary School: The school will provide meals to anyone 18 and under in the community starting March 18.  Lunch and breakfast, one pick up a day, will be available at the BES gym doors between noon and 1 pm weekdays.  It will be a drive thru service, hand off and go.  If there are outlying families that need delivery we can make those arrangements.  Please have them call the School and leave a message 225.3316.  This is available to any person 18 or younger regardless of income or free and reduced meal status!  

Boulder Monitor: The newspaper will continue to publish — but its office will be closed to the public until further notice. Please contact staff at 225-3821 or

Boulder Senior Center: Lunch service at the center is suspended. Meals on Wheels service will continue.

Clancy Volunteer Fire Department: This year's annual Easter Egg Hunt has been canceled. The department is still ready to help our neighbors during fires and accidents. Please stay safe and well, and be very careful with fire in and around your homes during these challenging times.

Elkhorn Pharmacy & Whitehall Pharmacy: will now be operating curbside services only and will continue to be open during regular business hours. Residents are encouraged to download on your Smartphone the app RX Local. For information call 225-3240.  Please be patient as the call volume may be high and calls will be answered as quickly as possible.

Hardware Hank: Limited access to the store. The front door will be locked at all times, please use the side door to enter the store. The number of customers inside the store will be limited to two at a time. If there are 2 customers inside there will be a sign posted on the side door that reads, “Please wait. We will be with you shortly.” Otherwise, the sign will read, “Welcome! Please come inside.” at that point you may come in. Closed daily for Lunch from 1pm-2pm. For curbside or delivery service please call the store with your order: 225-3346.

Jefferson County Court: Couples requesting to obtain a marriage license should access the Marriage License Application online at court.html. The Marriage License requirements are also listed. We request that the application be filled out, signed and emailed to our office at Once we receive the application, we will input the information and issue the marriage license. Our office will then contact the parties to pick-up the marriage license and pay the required fees. Pro se litigants are encouraged to mail their documents to our office. Law Offices are encouraged to file their documents by email at Anyone that has questions about forms and fees are requested to contact the District Court office by phone at 406-225-4042. Public requesting passports are requested to contact the District Court by phone at 406-225-4042 to set up an appointment. Court hearings at this time are being limited. Our office encourages parties to keep in contact with their Attorneys to confirm hearing dates and times. Parties may also contact our office at 406-225-4042 for Court information.

Jefferson County Museum: Closed through at least April 15.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office: The office remains open to the public, though contact with dispatch and detention center has been limited to essential personnel only and emergencies. Visits to prisoners has is limited to behind glass and electronic only (no face to face visits). People are encouraged  to limit visits if possible. The office is suspending concealed carry applications and most fingerprinting activities for 30 days in attempt to reduce public interactions at the jail.

Jefferson County Treasurer's Office: The Treasurer’s office will have limited in person access and will help with vehicle registrations, title work and tax payments by offering these options:

If you have no changes and your registration is current you can renew your tabs at: your registration will be mailed, by us, within 48 hours.

If you have your renewal card you may take the card (or license plate #-if you know the amount due) and a check or cash to Madison Valley Bank in Montana City OR Rocky Mountain Bank in Whitehall.  They will notify the Treasurer’s office of your payment and we will mail out your registration and tabs.  If making a tax payment call us to confirm the amount due and follow the instructions for a bank payment above.

You may call the office at 406-225-4100 and pay over the phone with a debit or credit card (please remember that there is a transaction fee for this).

If you have purchased a new or used vehicle, please contact us and let’s see what options are available to get this completed.  If you arrive and you have a cold or illness that we wouldn’t want you to share, call us, we will come out to your car.  The phone # is 225-4100.  Call ahead and we will make appointments.

Jefferson High School: All events in the next two weeks, starting March 16, have been indefinitely postponed. We will reevaluate the possibly rescheduling the events once the school reopens.

Local Emergency Planning Committee: Suspending monthly meetings until further notice.

Montana City School: All April  events are canceled until further notice, including meetings of the  Parent Teacher Association.

Montana City Volunteer Fire Department: Temporary restrictions include: No outside group meetings at Fire Station 1 or 2; no station tours or non-essential visitors to fire bay areas; access to the day room at Fire Station 1 restricted to VFD members; access to the exercise area of Fire Station 1 restricted to VFD members and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

North Jefferson County Libraries: For the coming weeks, the Libraries will cancel public programs and meeting room use.  The Libraries will also extend due dates, waive fines, and help patrons access library services remotely.  The Libraries have a wealth of resources that can be used from home including streaming content like Kanopy, downloadable ebooks and audiobooks from MyMontanaLibrary2Go, databases, and much more.

The Libraries will be available online (either through our website or social media please see below), through email (, and by phone (933-5254 and 204-4468).   We will try to respond to your inquiries within 24 hours. We will provide expanded drop box service and be adding new curb-side service.

The Libraries will be open limited hours for pick up only.  This means that we will not be open for public browsing.  We will fill requests based on phone, email, online holds and have them ready for pick up.  Please place your orders, stop by the library during limited hours, call the librarians, and we will deliver your items to your car.

The Libraries have been using advanced cleaning protocols; however, please note that the Libraries are public spaces, our items are used by the public, and we are unable to completely sanitize every item in our collection.  We advise our patrons to take precautions and to use their best judgement.

U.S. Census Bureau will suspend census field operations for the next two weeks until official census day of April 1, 2020. People can still fill out their census online at People can also call toll free at 1-844-330-2020. That number is both an information line as well as the phone number people can use to fill out their census information over the phone with sworn census staff.
