Montana City volunteer firefighter John Rasmann, right, watches while Montana City School sixth-graders put on firefighter gear for a relay race during two days of fire prevention instruction Oct. 9-10. Firefighter Larry Alheim said that, in addition to the sixth-grade relay race, Kindergarten students did stop-drop-roll, first-graders met with firefighters in gear, second-graders crawled through artificial smoke in the locker room, third-graders made a fire escape plan for their homes, fourth-graders played fire “Jeopardy,” fifth-graders watched a fire video produced by Bill Nye the Science Guy, seventh-graders each put out a fire with fire extinguishers, and eighth-graders hit targets with water from fire hoses.
