Blood still needed

First time donor Guenevere Johnson of Helena is assisted by Red Cross blood collection technicians Kathy Smith and Erica Gudmundsen on Sept. 9 at a donation event hosted by the Boulder Community Assembly of God. In all, the drive collected 60 units, according to organizer Vickie Cordeiro. Because about 80% of blood donations are made at drives hosted by community organizations, schools and businesses, the Red Cross urgently needs the help of both blood donors and blood drive hosts to ensure blood products are readily available for patients. Learn more and sign up to sponsor a drive by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/HostADrive. The Red Cross is testing blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The test may indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to this coronavirus, regardless of whether they developed symptoms. Donors can expect to receive the results of their antibody test within seven to 10 days through the Red Cross Blood Donor App or the donor portal at RedCrossBlood.org. The next blood drive in Boulder is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, 12:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the Boulder Community Assembly of God, 502 N. Jackson St. To make an appointment, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.  (Diana McFarland/Boulder Monitor)
