With temperatures plunging below zero and a blanket of snow on the ground, it’s hard to imagine that just weeks ago the landscape was ablaze with the warm and sunny palette of autumn. Photo contest contestants, however, were quick to capture those brightly colored scenes  and The Boulder Monitor is pleased to present the winners of its fall scenery photo contest.

In all, there were 20 entries, with the youngest from seven-year old Sophie Bowman of Boulder. The photos were evaluated by an independent judge, who looked for a good representation of autumn, preferably taken this year in Jefferson County, as well as composition and a good representation of fall colors.

The contest was sponsored by an anonymous donor, who provided cash prizes for first, second and third place adult entries and first and second place for photographers aged 14 and under. The donor wanted to encourage families to go outdoors and see the beauty that is on display in Jefferson County.
