Legislative committee debates medical marijuana

     Montana and Colorado share the Rocky Mountains, and if the most recent meeting of a Montana legislative committee is any indication, the states may also soon share similar medical marijuana laws.

City Attorney contract debated

     Tension was thick when the Boulder City Council held its regular August meeting on the 16th. Accusations of misconduct raised tempers and at one point three city officials exchanged angry words during a recess.
     At the heart of the tension were two issues – criminalization of refusing to take sobriety tests and the continued employment of Steven Shapiro as city attorney.

     Diane Woods Thompson,  age 63, of Boulder, Montana, died Friday, August 6, 2010, as a result of a motorcycle accident near Cottonwood, South Dakota.

Program uses fly fishing to help veterans cope

     Fly fishing – it may be just what the doctor ordered.
     For many Montanans, fishing is a hobby that hooks enthusiasts at an early age. But for veterans of war, it can be more – a tool to recover from lingering effects, physical or emotional. The combat zone moves from faraway countries to rivers and lakes in Montana – the battle is fought no longer with guns, but with fly rods.

The Boulder Monitor
Founded in 1907 after combining two predecessors, the Monitor has served Jefferson County for more than a century. Current publisher, the Jefferson County Courier owned by David and Jan Anderson, bought the Monitor in March 2002. In 2007, the Monitor was awarded the prestigious Thomas Dimsdale Sweepstakes Award, emblematic of being the best weekly or small daily newspaper published in Montana that year.
The Jefferson County Courier
Founded in April 1997, the Courier was awarded the prestigious Thomas Dimsdale Sweepstakes Award for work published in 2000 and the National Newspaper Association Freedom of Information Award in 2004.
